Feeling stuck in life? Learn to overcome the greatest fear that is preventing us from achieving success and fulfillment- the fear of not being good enough!
If you are feeling stuck in life, are unhappy and feeling unfulfilled, begin with asking yourself why. The answer for most people is that they just are not doing/living the life they dreamed of. Unfortunately, the only way to create big changes in our lives is by starting somewhere. Now, that starting point is not evaluating your resources, it’s changing your mindset and facing the fear that each and everyone of us has, the fear of not being good enough.
I know exactly what it’s like to go through life day-in and day-out and think yourself, “There has to be more to life than just this!” It’s a miserable feeling, and it prevents us from making further commitments in all areas of our lives for example, buying property, getting engaged, separating from our relationship, taking advantage of new opportunities, etc.
I wish I could say I’m sorry you feel this way, but I cannot. The truth is we make big decisions in our life for one of two reasons- we either reach a limit where we are no longer willing to endure what we are experiencing, or something motivates and inspires us to change. Pain is a great motivator, it was for me. I finally reached a point where I was no longer willing to settle for just “getting by”. I knew that I wanted to make a greater contribution to those around me and had spent years feeling stuck and paralyzed by fear.
How to Overcome the Fear of not Being Good Enough
Overwhelm it! Reflect on how long that fear has been with you, a long time! It may be helpful to understand that changing negative and fearful thoughts around it isn’t as simple as just shutting off a switch. How do we overcome any problem in our life? By overwhelming it!
If you know where you want to go and the dream life that you want to achieve. Start working towards it, vigorously! Some actions that will help you get there are:
- Do at least one thing daily that contributes towards progressing to your ultimate goal
- Discuss your fears and concerns with others who have the experience of working through them
- Surround yourself with people who support and empower you to raise your standards
- Get into personal development (working with a mentor, a life coach, or a therapist)
- Develop a routine/schedule creates space for new work and connections
- Do allow failure be option (don’t create a “plan b” just in case things don’t work out)
- Share your intention with others
As a coach, I’ve worked with adolescents, young adults, professionals and business owners. I can assure you, you are not the only who has this fear, everyone does. We know how to get our needs met, but achieving our dream lives requires a real shift in thinking to raise our standards of living, a FEARLESS mindset.
If you aren’t quite ready to face this fear now, I encourage to think about what the next 5 years is going to look like for you if you stay where you are at. Then think of what the next 10 years will look like. Time flies by and before you know it, another year has come and gone. Life is too short, the best time to face this fear is now!
